FUJIFILM X-T4 ‘Photography in Motion’

Published On: April 28th, 2020By Categories: Blog, FUJIFILMViews: 1788

At the beginning of March, I undertook a marathon of a journey from Scotland’s Isle of Skye to Kenya’s Masai Mara with a pre-production FUJIFILM X-T4 camera.

It was a great opportunity to get a hands-on and detailed look at how the X-T series has evolved and how these new features would be of benefit to wildlife photographers. Also travelling with me was Yorkshire-based wildlife filmmaker and photographer, Andy O’Brien, Fujifilm UK’s Marketing Executive, Laura, and film and documentary makers, Chris and Tom.

The FUJIFILM X-T4 is imminently shipping to retailers and customers across the globe. To coincide with this, FUJIFILM UK have published the film we made about using the X-T4 in the Masai Mara together with an ‘X Story’ covering about how I feel the features of this latest addition to the X-T series family are favourable towards wildlife photography.

Rather than duplicating content I’ve already written, you can see the content on the FUJIFILM X website using the links below. But in brief, my X-T4 highlights are:

  • a new battery with extended life,
  • IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilisation),
  • an articulated rear monitor,
  • a stills / video mode toggle.

Plus, improvements to:

  • frames per second rate,
  • autofocus,
  • mechanical shutter,
  • interface and ergonomics.

You can also read about Andy’s experiences of using the X-T4 for video and see some of his incredible footage too.

Wow, congratulations on being a new x-photog! How do you find the size difference of the x-T4?

It’s fine, I don’t really notice much difference compared to the X-T3.

Most humble to you sir, I beg of you a question. When your sir uses the lens glass for these photographic materials, do you have the advantagous beneficial use of tripod supporting or if not, I humbly extend my question may I. Do you hold the lens glass in your hands and do you find this a process which is free of problems. Thank you most highly.

I often use a Monopod Augustus as well as handholding. I do prefer to hand hold and it is okay for short periods of time but muscle shake can set in after a two or three minutes.
