Charlies Garden

My first trip out with the camera in 2012 involved an unusual foray into Landscape (well seascape!) photography. Some recent photographs by my good pals Ian Sweet and Darryl Laidler inspired me to dust off the wide angle lens and filters and take a trip out to the coast for a sunset. ‘Charlies Garden’ is…

Gosforth Park Woodland Hide

I spent a day last week in the new woodland feeding station hide at Gosforth Park Reserve. The feeding station attracts a typical selection of woodland birds. Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Greater Spotted Woodpecker were the highlights amongst the more usual great and blue tits. As is obvious from the camera settings the light I had…

Hi Ann, hope you are well.

Thank you for your comments, very kind of you! The hide is in a reserve which is run and managed by the Natural History Society of Northumbria http://www.nhsn.ncl.ac.uk. It is a fantastic reserve and I have managed to photograph Bittern and Kingfisher there too. It is however under threat from a housing development.

Great images Alan.

These are great Alan! Is this s Northumberland Wildlife Trust hide as I’ve recently joined?

Cheers Jai!

Some great images there Alan. I especially like the Nuthatch ones.

Ann Chapman

What a fantastic account! The weather and light did look perfect and I bet you never expected that for a trip in November..! Superb photos of the seals and the birds are excellent too. Well done!

Hi Alan, these shots are amazing, beautiful light and also very real with the scars. Nature can be brutal, the fight between the wolves and buffalo on frozen planet this week.

Nice write up Alan and some great shots to boot. For me the Juvenile Herring Gulls shot is the pick of the bunch, fantastic.

Thanks for organising a great trip, it was excellent and highly recommended. See you next time.

Cheers

Bittern, Cormorant, Curlew and a Swan!

Once again I’ve been slightly incapacitated due to a back injury sustained in my ‘day job’. Thankfully it doesn’t seem as bad as the last time. I’m keen to strike a balance between keeping on the move and not over exerting myself so yesterday I chose to visit a couple of locations where I knew…
