Wildlife Photography Safaris
Join me on a range of wildlife photography safaris designed specifically for photographers, whether you are picking up a camera for the first time or are an experienced photographer looking to refine your techniques and build a stronger portfolio.
I have been leading photography safaris in the private conservancies of Kenya’s Maasai Mara since 2012, working alongside my friend and business partner, Kaleel Zibe, under what is now our African Photography Safaris brand. We deliberately choose the conservancy model, where lower vehicle numbers, controlled tourism and responsible practices create a more intimate experience for both photographers and wildlife.
Since 2017, I have also worked with Cape Town based Penda Photo Tours, part of the Impact Travel Group, leading photography safaris across South Africa and Botswana, and next, into Zambia.
Collectively, these experiences have taken me in to some of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife habitats and given me a detailed understanding of the different environments, wildlife and photographic opportunities they offer.

I work with guests both individually and as a group, adapting my guidance to different experience levels and learning needs. From exposure, camera set-up and focusing techniques to composition, creative approaches and post-processing, I can help you get more from your equipment and develop your own photographic style.
I believe wildlife photography is about more than camera settings. Understanding the subject is just as important. I teach guests how to read tracks, alarm calls, body language and behaviour, helping them anticipate what might happen rather than simply reacting to what is in front of the camera. It is this combination of photography and fieldcraft that can turn a good sighting into a truly memorable photographic opportunity.
Ethics belongs at the forefront of every wildlife encounter. Photography should never come at the expense of the animal or its environment. Wildlife should be observed and photographed on its terms, with minimal disturbance, while respecting natural behaviour and the wild places we are privileged to visit. Responsible photography is not something added to a safari; it is fundamental to how we approach every encounter.

Leopards of South Luangwa Photography Safari, Zambia
Luangwa is well known for its leopard population density, possibly the highest in Africa! The verdant floodplains, oxbow lakes, and riverine forests along the Luangwa River offer prime leopard territory, making this one of the best places in Africa to observe and photograph these elusive predators.
Beyond leopards, the dry season sets the stage for dramatic predator-prey interactions. Lions thrive around dwindling waterholes, weakened buffalo become prime targets, and hippos battle for dominance in the golden light of sunrise and sunset. Wild dogs hunt along the riverbanks, and the hazy, golden light enhances the breathtaking landscapes.

South Africa’s Timbavati Wildlife Photography Safari
Based in South Africa’s Timbavati, one of the private reserves of the Greater Kruger area. With a lodge in the heart of the reserve we’ll be surrounded by the African ‘Big-Five’ (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino), plus a lot more including wonderful birdlife.
Timbavati’s wildlife is well known to be exceptionally relaxed around safari vehicles so we can expect to photograph the big-five with ease. In previous years, we’ve had safaris where we managed it in just one day!

Botswana’s Tuli Wildlife Photography Safari
Botswana’s Tuli Block is known for it’s stunning diverse habitats and landscapes. Riperian forests, open plains, mopane forests and rocky landscapes are home to lion prides, leopards and elephant herds, a vast array of birds and crystal clear night skies. Lonely Planet described it as “Botswana’s best kept secret”.
With hyenas, including the rare brown hyena, giraffes and cheetahs to add to the mix, plus incredible bird life such as, Verreaux Eagles and Eagle Owls, Meve’s Starling, Bee-Eaters and African Hoopoe, its another incredible photographer’s destination.
